As one of the three NHL teams within the New York/New Jersey area, the New York Islanders is a New York City icon. This hockey team had been based in Long Island since its start in 1972. But after playing at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum for 42 years, the team moved to its current space, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in 2015. In the early 1980s, the NHL labeled the team as one of the eight dynasties, and with four Stanley cup wins and 19 consecutive playoff wins, the team has stood above the competition since. With over 40 years of history, the NY Islanders have become a NYC staple.
Take a quick train down into Brooklyn and catch thrilling Islanders game at Barclays Center. Islander fans can catch a glimpse of team mascot, Sparky the Dragon roam around the stadium during home games. Watch players zoom past on ice as they score winning points and catch a glimpse of the violence and thrill of hockey. And who knows, maybe you’ll walk home with the winning puck!
