You know Grand Central Terminal as a train station, but did you know it was also an attraction? That’s right. Not only is Grand Central known for its shopping, transportation services, and food but you can also take a tour of this historical landmark.
It may sound a little ho-hum at first but we guarantee you will not only find the station beautiful, but you will also learn some facts you won’t get anywhere else. For instance, you might know that the 4, 5, 6 and 7 trains stop at Grand Central, but did you know that there were several movies filmed here? Find out which ones, by taking an in-person or audio tour of the building.
The MTA has partnered with Orpheo USA for it’s audio tours to create an informative environment for both tourists and locals to appreciate. An enjoyable experience for all, it is packed with historical details about Grand Central that are suitable for the entire family.
Audio tours run daily between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. (not including Christmas and Thanksgiving). Cost is $9 for adults and $7 for children, students, and veterans. Go to the Graybar passage to purchase. Tours are available in eight different languages including a group rate option. A downloadable app is also available for the tour for only $4.99 on both Androids and iPhones.
In addition, a Docent-led tour is available at 12:30 p.m. every day, lasting for 75 minutes. Space is limited for these tours and cost is higher as well – $30 for adults and $20 for seniors, children, students, military and MAS members. There are also group rates and private tours available.
