Flushing Meadows Corona Park has drawn visitors since its establishment. During the two World’s Fairs, millions of people came to the park. The park features several playgrounds, a zoo, two museums, a botanical garden, and a baseball stadium. Additionally, the park offers plenty of space for recreational sports or activities.
Some visitors make their way to the park to work out or practice a sport with friends or a team. Others come into the park to enjoy a vast area devoted to nature and feed the neighboring ducks. Some may also come to the park to visit one of its multiple facilities. In one part of the park lies the Unisphere, a huge model of planet Earth. A fountain surrounds the Unisphere, in which kids can be found playing if the water is turned off. Across from the Unisphere toward the side of the lake is a miniature skate park. The skate park attracts kid and teen skaters of all ability.
Across from the Unisphere in the other direction lies the Queens Museum, which features contemporary art and exhibitions. The New York Hall of Science, a museum dedicated to interactive play and scientific exploration, also exists within the park, though on another side.
Professional tennis players and tennis fanatics come to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Player in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Animal lovers also frequent the Queens Zoo, which is managed by the Wildlife Conservation Society and the New York Department of Parks and Recreation. Other active visitors include ice skaters, swimmers, and canoers, who each come to the park to practice their sport or do it leisurely.
In addition to its facilities, the park hosts regular events, such as fairs, movie nights, and boat races, that draw even more crowds. Flushing Meadows Corona Park can appeal to any individual and satisfy every recreational activity.
