Clove Lakes Park

The park that even native Staten Islanders frequently visit is Clove Lakes Park. The Clove Lakes area was considered a park by many Staten Islanders before NYC was even consolidated in the 1890s. Once construction in the area began in the 1930s, it officially became a park. It is called Clove Lakes because it derives its name from the Dutch word, “kloven,” which means cleft.
