The West Village is a classic and elegant spot to roam and explore the historical as well as the up-and-coming that NYC offers. Its approximate boundaries are the Hudson River on the west and Sixth Avenue on the east, extending from West 14th Street south to West Houston Street.
The West Village has loads of charm. Consequently, residents have been fighting its gentrification for years. The Weehawken Street Historic District includes a sailor’s hotel, former stables, and a wooden house. The other areas are the Greenwich Village Historic Extension and the Gansevoort Market Historic District.
Famous Stonewall Inn at Christopher Street –
Christopher Street, which runs through the West Village, includes the famous Stonewall Inn. On June 28th, 1969, the patrons of the Stonewall Inn fought back against harassment by the police department. Now that event is considered to be a historical turning point leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBT rights in the United States.
Other points of interest include the Jefferson Market Branch of the New York Library. Originally built as a courthouse in the 1870s, it was saved from demolition and later repurposed into a library.
The Village Vanguard is located here, too. It’s one of the area’s most famous jazz clubs. Since the High Line Park completion, many ultra-expensive buildings have risen in recent times. The most recent addition to the area is the New Whitney Museum of American Art.
Aedes de Venustas (Latin for “temple of beauty”) is more than just your “bath and body store,” with scents that are exotic and luxurious. The bottles, handcrafted in France, make for a perfect souvenir.

For drinks, Employees Only is famous for its signature Mata Hari. And Little Branch serves classic and original cocktails plus live jazz music. On the more lavish side is The Ballroom at the Jane Hotel where DJ-spun parties happen with a line that starts forming out the door.
