Umberto’s Clam House
Umberto’s Clam House first appeared in 1972, after its founder was inspired to open a seafood restaurant in the heart of Manhattan’s Little Italy. Four decades after its establishment, the place has evolved into a staple among the Italian restaurants found on Mulberry Street.
As a result, Umberto’s has become one of the most well-respected and well-known Italian restaurants in New York City. Additionally, the restaurant’s seafood focus propels it to the top of the seafood restaurant industry. Although the restaurant specializes in fish-based meals, it also offers a slew of pasta dishes and appetizers. More recently, Umberto’s has begun to feature an in-house wood bar.
Though it is known for its food, the restaurant is also known for its history. It was once the site of the most well-known mafia murders in New York City. A New York gangster who was celebrating his 43rd birthday was shot by a rival gangster at Umberto’s.
“Unpretentious flair, professional service, and reasonable prices” are at the heart of Umberto’s mission. Among its most famous dishes are the homemade lobster ravioli, the pork chops pizzaiola, and the fisherman’s platter.
