The New York Knicks

Representing New York City’s Basketball Culture

As one of the founding teams of the NBA, the New York Knicks are legends in the basketball world. The legendary team has made the NBA Finals eight times, winning two championships along the way. The team is also famous for having maintained the fourth highest victory total in NBA history in over 70 seasons.

The Knicks call Madison Square Garden their home, just like basketball team the New York Liberty and hockey team the New York Rangers. New Yorkers and fans from all over the Greater New York area come to Madison Square Garden to see them play. The team has played there since 1968.

The Knicks usually shorten their team name, but originally everyone knew them as the New York Knickerbockers. As a result, their team name is legendary throughout the NBA and resonates with sports fans and basketball enthusiasts all around.

The Knicks are New York City’s most known basketball team, but New York has two basketball teams. The second one is the Brooklyn Nets. Interestingly, the New York Knicks are one of two NBA teams that are still located in their original city.

Throughout their existence, the Knicks have fluctuated in their success. In their early years, they played well, often winning games and advancing. However, as they began to advance to the NBA Finals, they lost consecutive games. In the early 2000s, the Knicks began to win championship game again and obtained the title of most valuable team in the NBA.

During home games, the Knicks don a white jersey with orange accents while at away games, their jersey is bright blue. The New York Knicks are a hallmark of basketball and sports culture in New York City…come see them in action when visiting New York!
