The New York Nets

Stepping Up in the World of Basketball

Formerly known as the New Jersey Nets, the Brooklyn Nets are the first sports team to grace the streets of Brooklyn since 1957. In their previous incarnations, the team has won two Eastern Conferences. Currently, the Nets call the Barclays Center their home. The Nets share Barclays with professional NHL team, the New York Islanders.

The team’s mascot was superhero BrooklyKnight, until it was retired in the team’s second season. Marvel created this superhero and even generated a 32-page comic book about him.

Additionally, the Nets are one of two NBA teams representing New York City. The other team is the New York Knicks. Though the teams play in separate boroughs, fans are often divided on their favorite. Sports fans have called the Knicks-Nets rivalry a “clash of the boroughs,” due to the fact that each time plays in its separate borough. Additionally, each team has its own devoted fans.

One of the owners of the Brooklyn Nets is legendary hip hop artist Jay-Z.  Jay-Z grew up a couple of blocks from Barclays and has invested money into every aspect of the Nets’ play. He also helped design the team’s logo and jerseys, choosing its famous black and white color scheme.

The Nets are not as known for their victories as they are for the way their athletes play. Nets athletes are talented and score big individually. Though they are not a premier NBA team, sports fans believe they are moving in a great direction because Nets players put heart and soul into every game.

The Nets are an iconic New York team and a legendary team in Brooklyn. They have attracted a major fanbase and prove that New York teams are strong and resilient, just like New Yorkers themselves. The Brooklyn Nets always invite fans to watch them play.
