Opened in 1934, Tavern on the Green is an iconic Central Park restaurant, offering American fare in a quaint and elegant setting. Before it was a restaurant however, the tavern was a sheepfold for grazing sheep in Central Park. It would remain a sheepfold until 1934 when the sheep were relocated to Prospect Park. For decades, Tavern on the Green has drawn visitors with its unique and unparalleled atmosphere. Gorgeous, elegant furnishings make up the interior while outdoor garden seating make up the exterior. As they dine, customers are welcomed to an iconic view of Central Park. Filmmakers have also taken notice of its eye-catching appearance. The restaurant has appeared as a back-drop in a number of reputable movies — including 1984’s Ghostbusters.
On the menu, guests can expect local and artisanal food as well as a selection of cocktails and dessert. For lunch, offerings include their classic Tavern Burger, fish and chips, and steak. The Dinner menu serves a variety of seafood — including scallops and lobster — as well as steak, ribs, and lamb. On the weekend, a brunch menu is offered as well, allowing guests to enjoy the peaceful scenery alongside eggs benedict and smoked bacon.
