Roundabout Theatre Company began in 1965 as a small venue in a converted supermarket basement. Today, it’s one of the leading nonprofit cultural institutions in New York City. With a whopping five stages on and off Broadway, RTC caters to millions every year. In the 1990s, the company decided that it would produce a classic American musical each season. Some of these productions have included revivals of Nine, The Pajama Game, Anything Goes, On the 20th Century, and She Loves Me. Also around that time, Roundabout focused on also producing new work by living playwrights. It manages to corral an extensive pool of well-known talent for each show. And these shows combined have earned 36 Tony Awards and 51 Drama Desk Awards, among other accolades.
