Rockefeller Center

The city within the city
Rockefeller Center
New York City’s historic landmark for dining and shopping in Midtown Manhattan

Rockefeller Center, located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, is a major NYC landmark known for its Art Deco architecture. This “city within the city” was named after oil baron John D. Rockefeller, who contributed millions of dollars toward its construction. Today, Rockefeller Center is chock-full of shops and sights including the home base of NBC. In addition “the showplace of the nation,” Radio City Music Hall is right at its doorstep. This legendary venue welcomes millions of visitors every year with its abundance of phenomenal live shows.

Rockefeller Center, built in 1928 by some 75,000 men, is considered to be one of the greatest architectural achievements of the 20th century. In total the complex consists of 19 high-rise buildings housing a number of notable high-profile companies. 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the largest of them, sits as the centerpiece of the complex. In addition to being the home of NBC studios, “30 Rock” also features an observation deck. Dubbed “Top of the Rock”, visitors can expect to be awed by a stunning bird’s eye view of Midtown and Central Park. In addition, if you’re looking for an elegant place to dine, try out 30 Rock’s historic Rainbow Room. This NYC landmark was the first restaurant to be ever located in a high-rise building. If you visit during Christmas time, don’t forget to also stop by the famous Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree which is located in front of the building.

Rockefeller Center, proudly flaunting New York City’s magnificent Art Deco architecture, is a staple in NYC culture. Throughout the complex’s long history it has grown to become a living embodiment of the ideal of entrepreneurship that has developed NYC into prosperity and world-wide fame.
