Another interesting facet of the New York Transit Museum is that it features technological and design models of the transit system through the ages. Part of the museum’s mission is to honor the transit system that has been in place for over a century. The New York Transit Museum is one of the only museums in the world dedicated to the celebration and preservation of an elaborate urban transportation system. Visitors who are particularly curious can schedule a research appointment with a Transit Museum Archivist. The archives are in two different locations in Brooklyn and visitors must schedule an appointment at least two weeks in advance. Additionally, the museum maintains a digital collection, which houses over 10,000 photographs, posters, maps, and artifacts for view online. Visitors can also participate in various programs held within the Transit Museum, including writing workshops and musical performances. The institution operates under the control of the Metropolitan Transit Authority. It, however, also collaborates with other cultural institutions, such as the Coney Island Museum, to create unique demonstrations, installations, and exhibitions. Kids and adults will find this museum fun and entertaining.
