The New York Red Bulls, formerly known as the MetroStars, have brought soccer to the New York/New Jersey area since 1955. Along with New York City FC, they comprise New York’s representation in the MLS (Major League Soccer). Although soccer in the United States falls behind sports like baseball and football in terms of popularity, the Red Bulls do a great job sustaining the spirit of the sport nonetheless. If you watch a home game at Red Bull Arena, with its 25,000 seating capacity, you’ll hear this spirit manifested in fan chants echoing proudly throughout the air. Expect the chants to be even louder if the game is against against D.C. United, Philadelphia Union, or The New England Revolution — the team’s main rivals.

The club has enjoyed a number of high-profile players over the years, including Thierry Henry, a soccer legend known as the all-time goal scorer for Arsenal. Fans have watched these players earn the club several trophies and honors such as two Supporter’s Shields (2013, 2015) and the La Manga Cup (2014). The latter made the team the first in the MLS to win a trophy outside of America.
You can recognize Red Bulls players in their white and red jerseys at home and blue and yellow jerseys during away games. Red Bull Arena, dubbed the “Cathedral of American Soccer”, is located in Harrison, New Jersey.
