Bubba Gump Shrimp Company is a seafood chain inspired by the film Forrest Gump. In the film, Bubba Blue famously (and hilariously) expresses his eccentric love for shrimp, reciting a seemingly endless amount of shrimp related dishes. By the end, Forrest honors his friend by joining the shrimping business. And as a result, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company was born, not only on the big screen, but in real life as well.
Ever since the first restaurant opened in 1996 the business has expanded internationally opening up dozens of chains across several countries. At its Times Square location, Bubba Gump doesn’t just represent the oscar-winning 1994 film in name; it’s also decorated with movie memorabilia and features themed items on the menu. In addition, guests can play Forrest Gump trivia and signal their waiter with a “Stop, Forrest, Stop” sign.
The menu at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company offers, as expected, lots of shrimp. Staying true to Bubba Gump’s message, its shrimp dishes are cooked in just about every kind of way imaginable. “You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it…” Check out the Bubba’s Shrimp Specials portion of the menu, for all Bubba’s favorite shrimp recipes from the film. There’s also a “Forrest’s Favorites” section as well. If you’re not feeling shrimp, Bubba Gump offers plenty more in the way of seafood — offering various fish, crab, and lobster dishes along with burgers and sandwiches. Enjoying success worldwide, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company would most certainly have made its namesake proud!
