The Brooklyn Bridge New York

One of the most iconic New York sights to see is the Brooklyn Bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge stretches across the East River and has unbelievable views of the New York City skyline. This amazing piece of history starts in Manhattan on Park Row and Centre Street and ends on the Brooklyn Side where Boerum Place meets Tillary Street.
Construction of the bridge began in 1869 and was conceived by a German immigrant, who designed many previous bridges, named John Augustus Roebling. After an injuring accident and ultimately his death, his son Washington Roebling took over the project, making it one of the most historical bridges in the country. The bridge was then finally opened in 1883.

The bridge has a wide walkway that is open to pedestrians and cyclists which is in the center line of the roadways. Several thousands of cyclists and pedestrians walk through the bridge each day. It has also been a life-saving route after tragedies that have hit New York like the September 11th attacks and numerous blackouts.
The Brooklyn Bridge is a hybrid cable-stayed or suspension bridge in New York City. As one of the oldest roadway bridges in the country, the bridge has a deep history. The walkway is also known for it’s “love locks” that couples leave attached to the bridge. Many locks have been taken off over time but it is never fully empty. It has since become a national historic landmark and is one of the most breathtaking places to visit.
