Staten Island Zoo

The Staten Island Zoo prides itself on raising awareness about animal life and aims to encourage an appreciation of it amongst the wider public. There are an array of species featured within the zoo, with animals ranging from fish to mammal, birds, reptiles and so much more! As well as their animals, they also have different events happening for each month – be sure to check this out.

 

The Staten Island Ferry

The Staten Island Ferry is a large vessel that is used as the only vehicle to transport people from Manhattan to Staten Island. It usually leaves from Whitehall Street to St George on Staten Island, and transports over 20 million people a year. As well as a great means of transport, The Staten Island Ferry also provides incredible views of Lower Manhattan and of The Statue Of Liberty.

 

Fort Wadsworth

Located in the northern region of Staten Island, Fort Wadsworth is now a park that once used to be a military installation. Managed by the National Parks Service, it is open to the public to stroll through and indulge in the history that encapsulates it’s significant setting. There are also guided tours available for those who would like more insight into Fort Wadsworth.

 

St George Theatre

Filled with history is the St George’s Theatre – a great venue for viewing shows as well as providing a space for educational programs to take place. The current events that St George’s Theatre has on for the rest of October consists of: ‘A League of Their Own – Classic Movie Series’, ‘Rick Springfield and Richard Marx’, ‘ The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ and so much more. Roller Jam USA

Want to have some fun roller-skating? Roller Jam USA is the place to check out! It’s a great spot for people of all ages to have fun with friends, socialize and even meet new people. As well as a roller-rink, the Roller Jam USA also hosts many different events from entertainment and comedy nights, to birthday parties, carnivals, live music and so much more!

 

Staten Island Museum

For all those history, art and science lovers, the Staten Island Museum is a great place to check out and explore. They take great pride in being able to offer people an experience when visiting through engaging with the many different collections and exhibitions that have been carefully collected and curated. Their art collection has a selection from African Art to Asian Art, whilst their natural science collection has a selection from Entomology, Botany, Mammalogy, and their history collection even has an archive of books spanning five centuries.

 

Conference House

Located in Tottenville sits the Conference House – a historical place museum in Staten Island. It’s history dates back to the eighteenth century and is named  in honor of the peace conference of 1776. However, it was previously known as Billopp House as Captain Christopher Billlopp built it before 1680. The house is currently open to the public to explore and wander through the significant history that is embedded within its walls.

 

Franklin D Roosevelt Boardwalk and Beach

The Franklin D Roosevelt Beach has a boardwalk that extends for about 2.5 miles. The beach and boardwalk is a great place to relax, picnic, and enjoy some time with friends and family. It has many opportunities to play in their basketball courts or baseball fields. Be sure to check out some of the dining spots, or even have your own BBQ in their special barbecuing areas.

 

The Staten Island September 11th Memorial

Address: Banks Street, Staten Island, NY, 10301

The Staten Island September 11th memorial is a memorial in St George. The memorial commemorates and honors the lives of residents of Staten Island who were killed in the 9/11 attacks and in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Centre. The memorial consists of two sculptures that resemble  postcards and wings to signify them being sent to the loved ones who lost someone that day, with the names of those inscribed on it.

 

National Lighthouse Museum

Hours: Tues-Sun: 11am -5pm

The National Lighthouse Museum is a great place to check out and filled with so much history. The museum has about 2,400 square foot of space for visitors to wander, explore and be enriched by. There are group tours available, and also various events and exhibits for visitors to check out. Some that are currently available include: ‘Life at the Light: Lighthouse Keepers’, ‘Beacons Through Time’ and much more!
