How to Beat the Post-Holiday Blues

Everyone has that feeling of “now what?” once the Christmas tree has come down and the ball in Times Square has dropped. Luckily in the greatest city in the world, there are endless things to do when you’re feeling the crash after that holiday high. We’ve picked out some of our favorite remedies for how to Beat the Post-Holiday Blues.

Go see a Broadway Show

There’s nothing quite like going to a Broadway show in the city to lift your spirits. Of course, there’s the fore runners that are a sure fire way to have a good time like The Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Hamilton and The Book of Mormon, but there are also some new shows that have recently hit the scene that are worth checking out in January. Our picks would have to be Dear Evan Hansen and In Transit.

Plan a Museum Tour

Because New York City is rich in artistic and historical offerings, planning a day-long, or multiple day-long museum tour is the perfect way to get Santa off of the brain and put Van Gogh on it. Not only will you be hitting some famous spots like The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Guggenheim, and the American Museum of Natural History, but by traveling from museum to museum, you will also be getting a tour of the city depending on the places you choose. A good tip would be to get around by bus or Uber, so that way you’ll be able to gaze out of the window and see the sights of NYC from your seat!

Go On a Hunt for the REAL Best Cup of Coffee in NYC

We’ve all seen Elf, and we all know that Buddy the elf visited the diner with the supposedly “World’s Best Cup of Coffee.” However, we don’t think that’s necessarily true, so for all of you coffee enthusiasts out there, this might be the post-holiday activity for you. Hit up spots like Culture Espresso, Ground Central Coffee Company, and Birch Coffee to test out their finest drips and lattes. The best part about this would be a hot drink to keep the chill off of your hands in the January winter!

Go See a Hockey or Basketball Game

These two famed winter sports are all the rage in New York City. Pop on a NY Rangers or a Brooklyn Nets sweatshirt and call yourself a fan for the day while enjoying New York City’s sports. Maybe your hometown team will be up against New York, and you’ll get the chance to see your favorite team in a city known for it’s competitive edge. Just don’t blame us when the hot dogs start flying because you wore a Boston Bruins jersey to the Ranger’s game!

Have a Karaoke Night

If your tired of hearing “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” once and for all, get your pipes ready for a night out with friends at a karaoke bar. New York is home to quite a few karaoke spots like 5 Bar Karaoke Lounge NYC, Karaoke Duet 35, and Lulu Lounge, so there are endless options when choosing the right place to show off your belt. Karaoke is a sure-fire way to have a great time, and we’d argue it’s even better if you don’t have a voice to match Whitney or Prince.

Catch Your Favorite Artist in Concert

One of the many great things about New York City is that there are artists doing last-minute shows at venues all around the city. However, there are a few concerts we know about that you’re sure to have a great time at. Billy Joel, Twenty One Pilots and Kings of Leon will all perform in NYC during January.

Take a Guided Tour

This is an easy way to learn a little something about the city. Although it might be chilly, walking tours keep your blood pumping and you’ll be so invested in the tour that you’ll forget all about the January weather. Some great NYC tours include the Hamilton Walking Tour, The Sex and the City Tour, and The Revolutionary Era Walking Tour. Of course, if you’re completely averted to staying outside, plenty of museums and landmarks like the Empire State Building and the United Nations have indoor tours.
