Times Square

Broadway shows, fine food, and cool things to do in Times Square
The lights of Times Square shine brightly to wow anyone that walks through. This area, once a blighted area until the 1990’s, is known as the Crossroads of the World. Times Square is thought to be one of the busiest tourist attractions in the world with an estimated 50 million visitors per year.
Times Square traces its name to the early 1900’s when the New York Times erected their first building in the heart of Longacre Square. The famous zipper headline ticker that encircles the building still shows the news 24 hours a day while the world famous NY New Year’s Eve ball drop takes place on the roof.
Times Square

To experience all of Times Square would take days. The area includes the Great White Way, an expression coined for all the Broadway Theaters in the area. Broadway shows have been performed here starting since the early days of vaudeville. Underneath the huge billboards is the TKTS store where one can get great last minute discounted Broadway show tickets. Naked Cowboy, among many other costumed performers entertain on the streets around the TKTS Center until all hours of the night.

All of the double-decker buses, including CitySightseeing and Big Bus, use 42nd Street as a main stop, making it a hop on hop off point to all points in the city. Family friendly fun includes Ripley’s, Madame Tussauds New York, Gullliver’s Gate, and National Geographic exhibits. Music lovers will appreciate Planet Hollywood, The Hard Rock Cafe and BB King among things to do in Times Square.
For those with a sweet tooth, M&M and Hersheys have huge stores in the area. When it’s time to relax, Bryant Park and the New York Public Library are not to be missed. Bryant Park serves as an ice skating rink in the winter and a free concert and open movie night during the summer. Need a watch? Times Square now abounds with watch stores with all brands including TISSOT, the official timekeeper of the NBA. Stop in at the Disney Store, CHAMPS and many other fine stores. Dining is available on early every corner from Heartland Brewery, Dave and Busters, Susshirito, and Applebees to Carmines, Ruth’s Steakhouse and Oceana Restaurant. The area is easily accessible with the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Penn Station and Grand Central which are all within walking distance.
