This blog post is not actually for kids, it’s for the parents. Bringing your children along on a vacation can sometimes be hard, especially when it’s to the big city. We at Go Visit NYC get asked a lot “what can I do with my kids in NYC?” so we thought we would answer the question by putting together a full day of activities that both you and your children can enjoy together.  At the bottom of the blog post you will find a map that shows you where all the places are located and how to get from one to the other, for minimal effort and maximum fun!

Breakfast at Alice’s Tea Cup

Alice's tea cup - New York

What child (and adult) doesn’t like Alice in Wonderland? Here in NYC you can eat at the most whimsical tea house inspired by the movie and it provides a magical experience for the guests. We recommend this place for breakfast as they serve scones, tea sandwiches, hundreds of teas (yes literally) and most important of all, it comes with a side of fairy dust (yes you waiter will sprinkle fairy dust on your children and no we are not kidding).

Activity 1: Central Park Zoo

The Central Park Zoo was the first zoo in New York and it aims to create a naturalistic environment for the animals. It has three major exhibits areas: tropic, temperate and polar. The zoo is home to an indoor rain forest, a cooled down penguin house and two grizzly bear siblings.

central park zoo new yorkThe Central Park Zoo also has breeding programs for endangered species such as the tamerin monkeys, Wyoming toads and red pandas. There’s also a large free-flight area for birds and a snow leopard exhibit. Lastly (and maybe even the best part) is the Tish Children’s Zoo. Here you will find pigs, sheep, goats and the only cow in Manhattan. It’s also has great opportunities for children to crawl, jump and climb (and get rid of some of their energy). Animal feeding is only available between 10am-12pm.

Activity 2: Build a Bear
This is the teddy bear workshop which lets you create your own personalized little squishy friend. It takes about 30 minutes to bring a teddy bear to life!
Your Build a Bear journey will start at the virtual salad bar that doesn’t offer choices of salad ingredients but of deflated animals such as bears (obviously), cats, frogs, rabbits and more. Build a bear - New YorkPick your favorite and then stuff it to your desired level of “huggabillity”. You can also choose to give a voice or song to your new creation in form of a sounds chip before heading over to the styling section. Here you will pick an outfit and accessories for the new little hug-buddy, and the choices are endless! Make your teddy bear a Met player, nurse, Statue of Liberty or anything else in between. If you are struggling to pick, ask one of the fashion coordinators they will be happy to help you out!
The last stop on your Build a Bear journey is to give him a name and then register it with Find-a-Bear ID then you are all ready to take him home with you!

If mom and dad also decide to create a bear we won’t judge, this is what we at Go Visit NYC secretly do every Friday lunch break (just kidding but we totally want to).

Lunch at Hard Rock Cafe or Bubba Gump
Hard Rock Cafe New York Who doesn’t like Hard Rock Cafe? Located in the heart of Times Square, it serves great food and an incredible collection of music memorabilia. Bubba Gump - New YorkRight next door you can find Bubba Gump Shrimp Co a place inspired by the movie “Forest Gump”. They serve everything from seafood dishes, slow roasted ribs, salads and memorable desserts.
Well and of course a lot of shrimp!

Activity 3: Gulliver’s Gate

Gulliver's Gate - New YorkAfter lunch head to the Gulliver’s Gate;  a miniature replicas of various cities and attractions around the world in a 50,000 square foot setting. Gulliver’s describes itself as a “unique and playful interpretation of the real world in miniature.” So now you can see the entire world right here in the Big Apple, how awesome?  Gulliver's Gate - New York
When you enter you will receive a map of the world together with a key that let’s you operate model cars and trains along your journey.
On of the goals with the exhibition is to connect the past, present and future as a result, you and your kids can create your own imprint of the future and get a chance to be featured in the permanent collection.

Activity 4: Choose between Top of the Rock Empire State Building or One World Observatory
It’s time to see NYC from above! For this activity we’ve provided 3 different options, all giving you incredible but very different views of the New York Skyline.

Top of the Rock provides a front row view of the Empire State Building and is just a short walk from Gulliver’s Gate. If you rather go up in the actual Empire State building, this is also just a short walk from activity 3. The last observatory deck is One World Observatory which is located downtown in the Financial District. We recommend to take the subway if you choose this location (the 2, 3, A or C train from Times Square 42st and get of at Fulton street – 1 block from the observatory deck). This option is only an 8 minutes walk from the Ninja Cafe.

Dinner at Ninja Cafe or Planet Hollywood
When people say you can find anything in NYC, they literally mean anything. If you can’t find it in this city it doesn’t exist.
So are you read for some…we don’t even know how to put this into words so check out this video instead which shows the full dinner experience. No seriously, watch it. This interactive food experience at this Japanese restaurant is out of this world. Planet Hollywood - New York - Best of NYC with Kids
If Japanese food is not your cup of miso soup we recommend the classic Planet Hollywood, a themed restaurant inspired by the popular portrayal of Hollywood. It’s also located in the heart of Times Square, walking distance from Top of The Rock and The Empire State Building.

Activity 5: Broadway Musical
disney frozen broadway new yorkEnd your day with a Broadway Musical! A must do activity when visiting the Big Apple! There are many Disney shows such as Aladdin, the Lion King, or if you visit NYC after March 2018 Frozen will also be an option! Other kid friendly musical depending on age include Spongebob, School of Rock and Gazillion Bubble show!!

Activity 6: shhhhh!
The kids are now asleep and the real vacation starts. Pick up your phone and download the app “Mini Barwine - New York“. It let’s you shop from the best selection of wine, spirits and beer all delivered very fast to your door. So mom and dad can enjoy a relaxing glass together without having to worry about a baby sitter!
