St. George

Cultural Hub
This is the northernmost tip of Staten Island, the part that is closest to Manhattan. It is probably the part of this borough that most tourists see, simply because of its close proximity to the famous Staten Island Ferry. Within the Ferry’s terminal, there are many little cafes and newsstands frequented by commuters. It is also the first stop of the Staten Island Railway. The residential architecture here has a distinctly Victorian feel.
Outside of the travel points, visitors can stop by the St. George Theatre, a former movie palace which now hosts a variety of live shows. The Richmond County Ballpark is located nearby. It is home to a minor league baseball team known as the Staten Island Yankees.

But perhaps the most artistically significant aspect of this neighborhood is the Snug Harbor Cultural Center. It houses the Staten Island Children’s Museum, their Greek Revival-style Music Hall, and even a botanical garden.
As a matter of fact, that Music Hall is the second-oldest concert venue in the city, only behind Carnegie Hall. Interestingly, there’s also a section around St. George containing the largest population of Sri Lankans outside of Sri Lanka- and enough ethnic eateries to match.
