Prospect Heights

Where the Entrance of Brooklyn’s Iconic Prospect Park Lies
Prospect Heights is a small but quintessential part of Brooklyn, with its diversity and tree lined streets. With a mixture of older reconstructed buildings, rows of 1800s brownstones, and newly built luxury condominiums, Prospect Heights has become another picturesque Brooklyn neighborhood.
This northwestern neighborhood is known for being the location of Barclays Center, a multiplex arena for live events and entertainment. As home to the local Brooklyn Nets and New York Islanders, this stadium has a whopping capacity of 18,500 seats, even rivaling Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden. The arena also hosts multiple concerts throughout the year. Prospect Heights is also the home of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, which is committed to conservation and education. Its campus contains flora from all seasons. And with over 8 different gardens and their famous cherry tree festival Cherry Esplanade, the BBG is a great spot year round.
The Brooklyn Museum is the third largest museum in NYC with an art collection with roughly 1.5 million works. Founded in 1823, by Augustus Graham of the Brooklyn Apprentices’ Library in Brooklyn Heights, the museum’s extensive collections include historically significant artifacts as well as culturally significant artworks. The Brooklyn Public Library, the fifth largest public library system in the United States also has its central library in Prospect Heights.
The Grand Army Plaza, originally known as Prospect Park Plaza, is the main entrance to the famous Prospect Park. Its grand arch, pillars, and monuments make the park not only a great place to visit but also a great historic site. Prospect Park, which was designed by the same Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux who designed Central Park, has over 500 acres of land. With multiple sports fields, a boathouse, and the Prospect Park Zoo, there’s something here for every type of visitor.
As the fifth largest historic district in New York City, Prospect Heights has a lot to offer its citizens and visitors. With the increase in a younger generation of Brooklynites, the neighborhood has seen a surge of new artisan and speciality shops. With an ever developing neighborhood plan, Prospect Heights is becoming a noteworthy area to visit.
