The Literary Pub Crawl is a tour unlike any other, as it delves into NYC neighborhoods that are rich in history and culture and offers you a taste of the best beer that the city has to offer. As one of the longest running bar tours in the Village, the mission of this tour is to keep history alive by reviving and inspiring the spirit of the Village and the writers who helped shaped this nation. Actors from the Bakerloo Theatre Project supply visitors with pints at the White Horse Tavern, Kettle of Fish, and other noteworthy pubs while filling their heads with lore about Village scribes Edna St. Vincent Millay and Dylan Thomas.
This tour began in 1998 when writers of a young theater company, The New Ensemble, regularly held their company meetings in several bars across NYC. This inspired the idea to hold weekly readings of these writers works while enjoying alcohol and good company of spectators in these pubs. After being inspired by jazz and blues tours around Greenwich Village they decided to run their own tour and feature some of New York’s best pubs and works by literary greats.
