What to Wear on Your Sightseeing Adventures

Countries, states, and cities have different climates to get used to, and it is important that you are appropriately dressed and well-prepared for every occasion.
If you have never traveled to New York City before, the weather may be confusing for you to adjust to.

Necessities that should be in everyone’s New York travel bag:
-Spring is notoriously known for bringing on and off rain showers throughout the day. Always carry an umbrella just in case, and if you want to be even more cautious, bring an extra pair of socks in case you step into a puddle.
-When in NYC, you’ll find hundreds of places to buy toiletries, so don’t overpack in this area.
-Chapstick is important, especially with the dry New York air so always make sure your lips stay moisturized.
-A miniature hand sanitizer will come in handy (no pun intended) to rid your hands of germs, especially if you will be riding the subway or the bus.
-You should carry a re-usable water bottle to stay hydrated after a long day of walking around the city.

For sightseeing in the city: The bustling city is often filled with a springtime breeze during March and April so a light jacket would come in handy to keep you warm. Chances are you will want to take a boat or ferry to the Statue of Liberty, Governors Island, or going to Ellis Island. Surrounded by water, each of these areas can certainly be breezy in the spring, so you may want to bring an extra sweater with you if you tend to get cold easily. If you forget to bring a sweater or jacket and find it to be a little chilly outside, you can always stop by Macy’s Herald Square to find an affordable option.
While sightseeing, you are sure to be doing a lot of walking, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes.

For Seeing a show: Some theaters require you to dress up, however, most broadway shows do not have many specifications. A nice pair of jeans with a neat top will suffice or a simple dress with flats would work just as well. It seems people generally make an effort to look nice at these shows, since tickets are so expensive and the performances are encapsulating. However, always make sure you are comfortable in what you are wearing so that you can actually enjoy the show and not be too worried or annoyed by what you are wearing.

For going out to dinner:
If you are going somewhere that offers the casual dining experience like Heartland Brewery, with its relaxed atmosphere, you can certainly wear jeans with a nice blouse or even a t-shirt. It is right near Broadway so you can walk there after seeing a show. If you plan on going somewhere more upscale, then you should wear a nice dress with a small heel, nothing with too big of a heel since that may be uncomfortable with all of the walking that you might do. A pair of slacks with a pretty blouse or a cardigan would also be appropriate. It may get a little chilly at night as you are leaving a restaurant so a warm sweater or a windbreaker would be sufficient in keeping you warm if you are walking back to your hotel, to the subway, or hailing a cab.
