Known as “the house that Ruth built,” Yankee Stadium is a prime location for the best in sports and entertainment. As the New York Yankees play their home games in the stadium, the sporting area is notable for holding sporting events, conventions, concerts and other events such as the 2009 World Series won by the Yankees themselves. The stadium is also currently home to MLS team, New York City FC.
Before the current Yankee Stadium was built, the New York Yankees called the original Yankee Stadium home for 85 years. Built in 1923, the stadium was unique for its time, due to its size. The stadium became more prominent over the many years as one of the premier centers of entertainment in New York City. The stadium was known for hosting concerts from world class artists and musicians from Billy Joel to U2 and special events from the record breaking Jehovah’s Witness Convention to the numerous masses given on a Papal Visit.
The current Yankee Stadium opened in 2009 giving spectators and Yankee fans 63% more square feet of space from the former stadium. The former Yankee Stadium originally adjacent to the current stadium, was demolished in 2010. The old stadium grounds wa transformed into a public park called Heritage Field. The park contains many trees, park benches and a space for aspiring athletes to test out pitches in the field .
Visitors and Yankee fans coming to Yankee Stadium can find family-fun entertainment throughout the stadium. Located at Gate 6, visitors can learn and relive legendary Yankees moments from past and present at the New York Yankees Museum. The museum holds memorabilia from past and recent players including Yogi Berra and Derek Jeter.
From time to time, Yankee Stadium holds concerts from some of music’s biggest acts. From chart-topping artists Jay-Z and Eminem to legendary musician Paul McCartney, the stadium brings world class entertainment to the Bronx for all to see.
