Radio City Music Hall
The Showplace of the Nation

Radio City Music Hall is located near Rockefeller Center and is one of the most visited places by tourists in NYC. In 1978, it achieved landmark status. The theatre’s mastermind was an impresario named Samuel “Roxy” Rothafel back in the 1930s. Today almost 300 million people visit the Music Hall every year. They enjoy concerts, stage shows, movies, and other events, including the beloved Christmas Spectacular starring the resident dancers: the Rockettes.

The marquee of Radio City Music Hall is a whole city-block long. A series of sweeping arches make up the walls of the auditorium, providing a cruise ship-like curving and overall splendid space. You don’t have to worry about your view, since there are no columns to block it; this was an intentional design choice to ensure that all seats are great ones.

A colossal proscenium arch frames the Great Stage. The three sections are mounted on hydraulically-powered elevators. So this gives artists the freedom to utilize the best effects for their performances. The hydraulic system, when built, was very ahead of its time. Finally, there’s the fourth and central lift that controls the height of the entire orchestra. The band can even play as this platform moves!
