The Bronx Museum of the Arts
Fostering Appreciation of Art in Local Communities

The Bronx Museum of the Arts is one of the most famous cultural institutions in New York City. It is a special destination for a number of reasons and visitors will appreciate its mission.

The Bronx Museum of the Arts aims to make art accessible to all ages. The institution accomplishes this by offering free admission for all visitors. Since its establishment in 1971, the museum has given its Bronx communities access to art and cultural experiences. Since the opening of the establishment, millions of teenagers, adults, and senior citizens benefited from the museum.

The museum also gave local artists the opportunity to connect with their surrounding communities. This has generated a lot of local interest in art and culture that continues to thrive today. The museum continuously dedicates itself to building communities through art. The institution often invites visitors to participate in various public programs that promote collaboration and provide a venue for the exchange of ideas. The museum also maintains the goal of empowering local Bronx communities.

Originally, the building was built on the premises of the Bronx County Courthouse. It moved up to its current location in 1982. In an effort to expand its institution and make art more accessible, museum officials agreed to a 16,000 square foot expansion. As a result, the institution now has a major gallery, a beautiful outdoor terrace, a floor of classrooms, and several event spaces.

The museum has an impressive collection of more than 1,000 unique pieces that the museum curators circulate along year-round. The collection represents the surrounding communities and their contributions. For example, there is artwork dedicated to the creation of hip hop and graffiti art, both of which have origins in the Bronx.

The Bronx Museum of the Arts invites everyone to learn more about art and enrich themselves in Bronx culture.
